Since the Partnership was established in 2003 almost £18million of public sector funding has been secured through to 2010/11 together with more than £113million private sector investment.
Progress has mainly taken place in the historic area that forms the western part of Sunniside where historic buildings have been improved and brought back into use. New development has introduced an exciting leisure area in the North West sector. This investment has been supported by the completion of two major publicly funded, place making projects; Sunniside Gardens and thePlace. These award-winning developments are raising the profile of the area, increasing private sector confidence and providing the catalyst for further investment and activity.
An independent evaluation of Sunniside Partnership was completed in early 2009. The evaluation reports that partnership working is successfully tackling the area’s problems and has established the framework to deliver the scale and quality of change required to ensure Sunniside fulfils its potential. This has stimulated the regeneration of the area and ensured that considerable progress has been achieved that exceeds the targets and milestones set out in the original 2004 Business Plan.
