Gordon Brown Associates in West Sunniside is one firm to benefit from a commercial property grant. The solicitors, which has been offering legal services for 22 years, has recently received a £30,000 cash boost towards the refurbishment of its basement to make way for a new estate agency side to the business. It is set to open by the middle of May and will create five new jobs.

Partner Moya Mason said: “There are real benefits to having the estate agency on the same site as the solicitors. The grant money has helped transformed our dingy basement into a spacious, beautifully lit office. It has been a great help.”

Moya, 55, has been running her business for about 22 years.  I opened the business here. Mason Brown was a sleeping partner. Two firms growing alongside each other for about 20 years. Thought it would be a good idea to merge the two businesses.  Had already set up an estate agency. With the advent of HIP it made me think about merging. With that in mind I thought we would roll out the estate agency and merge in Sunderland.  Other benefits to having it on one site. The area we hope will increase in footfall. Our ground floor will be our estate agency. Grant money has opened our basement, which was dingy, into a spacious, beautifully lit office. It has enabled us to move our legal staff into the basement. This frees up our ground floor for estate agency.  The grant has been a great help. At least five jobs have been created.

£30k contribution to a £100k scheme.

Construction work has finished now. Moved in on Friday (13 April). Estate agency will be finished by mid May. Work started in Feb.
